Moldavite (in Czech called Vltavín) is an olive-green or dull
greenish gemstone formed in the heat of meteorite impact
about 15 million years ago. Czech moldavites are the only
European tektites and also the only gem quality tektites
in the world with such a beautiful green color.
Over the millions of years that have passed since
the impact event which formed moldavites, much of the
material has been eroded away, and much has been buried.
As a result, moldavite is only rarely found today in small areas.
Their number was very limited by the relatively small scale of the deposit itself. At the beginning of the 21st century this deposit was completely worked-out and there is currently no chance of finding any other pieces.
Moldavite could be faceted as a very rare
gem. Nice pieces of rough moldavite could be
also used in jewelry. These attractive
uniquely-shaped pieces are commonly
wire-wrapped by precious metals and made
into pendants or earrings. The best

which in comparison with other localities
have the significantly and best developed
morphology of the surface. Therefore
